McKittrick

WORLD’S FIRST SOLAR ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY (EOR) PROJECT

On February 24th 2011, GlassPoint commissioned the world’s first commercial solar enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project.  The system provides energy to an oilfield operated by Berry Petroleum in Kern County, California. The project went on to become GlassPoint’s primary site for deploying new and inovative technolgies.

Unlike GlassPoint’s giant projects at Miraah and Amal, McKittrick is a small unit designed to be easily modified.  It has undergone a number of revisions and retrofits since its inauguration in 2011.

Peak Output: 0.3 MW Thermal

Energy Output: 0.4 GWh/yr

Daily Steam Output: 2 Tons

Solar Field Area: 640 m2

Total Project Area: 1,925 m2

Technology: GlassPoint Enclosed Trough

Greenhouse Blocks: 1

Construction Start: 2010

First Steam: 2011

Gas Savings: 1,952 Million Btus Per Year

CO2 Emissions Saved: 103 Tons Per Year

“I just found it such an attractive, simple idea, which I think is innovation at its best.”
